About Sunnyside
Sunnyside is a bold new art experience transforming Ballarat with colour, creativity, and community.
Featuring multi-sensory installations by UK artist Morag Myerscough, workshops, talks and wanderings, it’s a joyful celebration of connection, imagination and artistic expression.

Backstory
Sunnyside is a celebration of curiosity and the joy of stepping into the unknown.
Unlike traditional multi-artist events, Sunnyside is shaped through collaboration with the community, with a single visiting artist invited to bring their distinctive style to life in bold and unexpected ways.
Kicking off the inaugural edition, a major new work by renowned London-born artist Morag Myerscough. Known internationally for her bold use of colour and pattern, Morag will transform the iconic Mining Exchange into a multi-sensory experience, Chasing Sunbeams.
The centrepiece has developed through workshops and conversations with local creatives and the wider community. Inspired by Ballarat’s people, stories and imagination, Chasing Sunbeams reflects the spirit of collaboration that defines Sunnyside.
Beyond the main installation, the experience spills into laneways and hidden corners, where playful prompts invite exploration and reframe how we move through familiar places, embracing the delight of the unexpected.
Supported by a program of workshops and collaborations with the local creative community, Sunnyside invites people of all ages to step away from the expected, revel in bold ideas, and immerse themselves in a once-in-a-lifetime creative adventure.
Sunnyside is the latest chapter in the ongoing work of The Social Crew. an award-winning creative studio known for crafting unforgettable art experiences. About
Sunnyside is the result of a deeply collaborative creative process led by The Social Crew, grounded in community engagement and co-creation.
The artwork has been developed in collaboration with internationally recognised artist Morag Myerscough, bringing global perspectives to local stories. Through workshops, consultation, and hands-on experiences, over 60 Ballarat locals contributed ideas, inspiration, and creative input that echo throughout the final experience.
Chasing Sunbeams, immersive sound pieces are composed by Raul Sanchez i Jorge, word-based artworks, and collaborative contributions from community workshop initiatives hosted by Fontella – The Zine Machine and Murrup Arts, have helped inform the work.
Key creative contributors, including Design Studio One&Other and Publicists Zilla and Brook, have helped shape the project’s visual identity and communications, supporting a seamless integration of community stories into the broader narrative.
Throughout the project, The Social Crew has built strong partnerships with local businesses including Rare Trades Centre, The Unicorn, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Federation University, and the Waddawurrung Traditional Owners. A strong commitment to sustainability and prioritising local suppliers were possible underpins our approach to delivery.
This collaboration demonstrates the power of art to connect people, place, and culture, celebrating Ballarat’s creative spirit through shared experiences and collective imagination.
