Colour in the Laneway

Karndorr, a community-driven textile work honouring the tracks we wander upon, following the paths of Wadawurrung Country.

Emerging from the spirit of the Belonging community workshops led by Wadawurrung Traditional Owner and Aboriginal artist Jenna Oldaker (Murrup Art), and brought to life with Morag Myerscough, this immersive textile installation transforms one of Ballarat’s most iconic laneways into a vibrant, living canvas.

Bursting to life like a kaleidoscopic tapestry, Karndorr weaves colour, pattern, and movement in celebration of connection and Country.

As the fabric sways and shimmers in the breeze, it becomes a patchwork of joy, culture, and belonging, inviting all who pass through to pause, reflect, and feel the heartbeat of Wadawurrung Country.

Sunlight Garden

Alfred Deakin Place is where community art blooms, sunsets come alive, and music lifts you sky-high in a joyful mash-up of imagination, colour and good vibes.

These imaginative creations have blossomed into dynamic, geographically inspired artworks that light up the space, like petals opening in a garden of light.

Flower concepts by a selection of belonging workshop participants, bought to digital life by Morag Myerscough.

Sun Song

The transformative power of belonging.

The sun guides individuals towards understanding, acceptance and a sense of home.

The work is a celebration of the enduring search for belonging in an ever-changing world.

Adding another layer to the experience is Morag’s animated geometric sunset sequence, complemented by local musician and sound designer Raul Sanchez i Jorge’s soundscape, which blends uplifting beats with gentle natural sounds to create a joyful sonic journey.

"It was so much fun making the music for the Sunnyside animation, I really tried to match the bright colours and playfulness by using tones and instruments, such as electric organs, tubas and flutes, that compliment and bring out those feelings of joy. I especially loved going nuts making the crazy Kaleidoscope sounds to give it all a bit of a carnival, fairground psychedelic-madness vibe! What a heap of fun." said Raul.
